FAQ

A Learning Management System (LMS) is a content delivery and management platform for online training programs. It is responsible for the delivery, organization, and tracking of SCORM-compliant educational material. In addition to providing learners with access to training, the Simple LMS also provides users in administrative roles with tools for content management and data analysis.

A Learning Management System expedites, simplifies, and standardizes training and certification processes across an organization. It makes it easy to manage training efficiently by centralizing educational content, which allows for tighter control and widespread accessibility.

There are several advantages that go along with implementing a management system, including:

  • Decreased training time and cost
  • Increased compliance
  • Improved training quality
  • Easy access to information
  • Up-to-date content
  • Improved communication
  • Data reporting and analysis
  • System personalization

Learning Management Systems are highly versatile and can be used by a wide range of organizations to deploy training content for various purposes, such as:

  • New Employee Training - onboard new team members with introductory training
  • Product Education - educate employees about company product details
  • Procedure Training - provide a detailed guide to standard situations and situational procedures
  • Safety Training - provide training to maximize workplace safety and meet regulatory requirements
  • Workshops - introduce team members to new ideas and strengthen existing skills
  • Certifications - meet training requirements to award certification
  • Legislative Compliance - meet training requirements for legislative regulatory compliance

Training consists of educational content organized into courses for uses to take. Training material can be created for a multitude of topics and purposes, including employee training, safety education, certification, workshops, and more.

Online training courses are typically presented in a slideshow format and can include text, images, videos, exams, and interactive elements. A user clicks through and interacts with the content, completing the course once they’ve reached the end. Learners can access online training anytime and complete courses at their own pace.

The method by which a training course is delivered is called the modality. Simple’s LMS has two primary modalities: online and in-person. The system automatically provides unique functionality and information that each modality needs.

Different course and session formats can be delivered through each modality, including:

  • Online On-Demand
  • Online Session
  • In-person Session

SCORM stands for “Sharable Content Object Reference Model.” It’s a reference model that defines standards for constructing online training content so that it can be easily shared across systems. An LMS that is SCORM-compliant can deliver any material that is also SCORM-compliant. This makes it easy to create, share, and purchase content without needing to modify it for compatibility.

Simple LMS has multiple roles that can be assigned to users. Each role has access to specific functions of the LMS that are hidden from other roles. Every user has at least one role, and users may also have more than one role simultaneously in order to access expanded functionality. Simple LMS automatically knows which functions to display when a user logs in based on their role.

User roles may include:

  • Learner
  • Admin
  • Trainer
  • Manager

Course material is developed separately from the Learning Management System. Typically, an organization has a separate Training Team that develops custom curriculum. Course content that is shared or purchased can also be deployed through the LMS as long as it is SCORM-compliant. Your Training Team provides completed Course package files, which are then stored and organized in the LMS database.

Once a Learner completes all the Courses within a Training Category and passes an exam, Simple LMS can issue an electronic certificate that users can view and download on the Course Dashboard. Organizations determine the training requirements for Certifications, and the Training Team develops curriculum accordingly. The Courses can then be organized within the LMS so that certificates are automatically issued upon completion.

The LMS continually tracks data on content and user interactions and provides metrics to administrative users. The LMS generates reports collected data which can be viewed on a dashboard by an admin.

The system has the ability to track metrics such as:

  • Course completion
  • Exam completion
  • Issued certificates
  • User registration
  • Completion time

Simple LMS allows for a customizable experience. In addition to the core system technologies, other optional features and third-party tools can be added to the platform for additional functionality. Some other features our team can build in are:

  • Calendar Integration
  • User Surveys
  • Course Reviews
  • Notifications
  • Custom functionality
